Modernizing dated classrooms and lecture halls into flexible learning labs supporting local business needs

Herkimer College Learning Labs

Herkimer, New York

Designed and constructed together, the Entrepreneurial Lab and Quality Assurance Lab are two of Herkimer College’s more recent efforts in modernizing original, traditional classrooms into specialized, flexible labs.

The Entrepreneurial Lab marks the entry to the recently renovated floor of Johnson Hall Science Center and accommodates college business and accounting classes, board meetings and variety of classes, seminars and meetings.

The Quality Assurance Lab is a renovation of a traditional tiered seating instructional laboratory into a flexible lab that supports students, local small businesses, and workforce development. The new lab takes advantage of the original ceiling height, opens views into the corridor and is fit-out with technology to stream live labs and events. The QA Lab combines fixed desktops, 3D printers, and mobile tables and chairs for increased flexibility.
